The closest desert to Marrakech: kasbahs, the Draa palm grove and a night in a desert tent, all in a weekend.
From €100 per person Book now
If you only have two free days in Marrakech and do not want to leave Morocco without sleeping in the desert, this is your tour. Zagora lies on the far side of the High Atlas, at the end of the Draa Valley, and can be reached in a single day’s drive full of stops: the Tizi n’Tichka pass, the kasbah of Ait Benhaddou and the longest palm grove in the country.
As evening falls you swap the car for a camel to reach the camp, where dinner, drums and a sky thick with stars await. The next morning, after watching the sunrise, you return to Marrakech across the same mountains, in a different light and with different viewpoints.
Ideal for: travellers short on time, families with children and anyone wanting a first taste of the desert without overly long days.
We collect you from your riad early in the morning and head south. The road climbs past mud-brick villages to the 2,260-metre Tizi n’Tichka, with stops at the best viewpoints. On the other side of the Atlas we visit the ksar of Ait Benhaddou, a World Heritage Site, and continue via Ouarzazate to Agdz, where the endless Draa palm grove begins. We reach Zagora in time to ride camels and watch the sunset on the way to the camp.

It is worth getting up early: sunrise turns the dunes and the mountains of the Draa pink. After breakfast we ride back to the vehicle and start the return. We stop in Agdz and in a village along the valley to stretch our legs, and in the afternoon cross the Tizi n’Tichka once more, reaching Marrakech towards the end of the day.

Timings and the order of visits may be adjusted according to the season, road conditions and your preferences.
We choose small places with character, where a home-cooked dinner is part of the experience. In the desert you can choose between two types of camp.
Private tent with beds, blankets and shared bathrooms. The simplest and most authentic option.
Spacious tents with a large bed, private bathroom and shower, electricity and dinner served at the table.
The dunes at Zagora are lower than those at Merzouga. If you dream of great golden sand dunes and can spare one more day, choose the 3-day tour to Erg Chebbi.
It is completely private: the vehicle, the driver and the itinerary are just for you and your companions. You will not share the trip with strangers, so we can stop wherever you like and adapt the timings.
Yes. What you see is our standard proposal. We can add a night, change the start or end point, include a guided visit or adjust the stages to your flights. Tell us what you need and we will send you a tailor-made version.
In both you have a private tent, dinner, breakfast and an evening of drums by the campfire. The luxury camp adds a private bathroom with shower inside the tent and more refined décor; in the standard camp bathrooms are shared and you shower in the morning at the hotel in the village.
About an hour and a half each way, at a gentle pace and accompanied by a camel handler. We set off a couple of hours before sunset to arrive in good light. If anyone cannot or would rather not ride, let us know and we will find an alternative.
Send us the form or write to us and we will confirm availability and the final price within 24 hours. We accept online payment (Visa, MasterCard and PayPal), as well as cash or card in person.
You can travel all year round. Spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) have the mildest temperatures. In winter the days are sunny but desert nights are cold, and in summer it is best to start early and make the most of the vehicle’s air conditioning.
The fastest way to link Marrakech and Fez without giving up a night in the Merzouga dunes.
