Camello Viaje

We are Berbers, and we know and love this land

This site is for those who dream of the Moroccan desert: a land of dunes, sun and silence. And also for those drawn to the contrast of its cities, full of colour, aromas, bustle and centuries of history.

We organise private tours of Marrakech, Fez and the rest of the country, always with the Sahara as the common thread. You will sleep in kasbahs and riads in the heart of the medinas, drink tea in a nomad tent, drive through red-walled gorges and ride a camel towards the horizon to spend the night under a sky you will never forget.

You choose the dates; we organise everything else.

  • Private vehicle with an English-speaking driver
  • Accommodation with dinner and breakfast included
  • Itineraries that fit your flights and your pace

What those who have travelled with us say

«Five of us went on the three-day desert trip and it was a very good experience. Punctuality and friendly service from the guide, the driver and the staff at the accommodation (hotel and tent). The journey, although long, was easier because the car was well equipped. Without doubt a highly recommended experience.»

Travellers on a tailor-made tourRabat, Marrakech, the gorges and Merzouga

«This is the second time I have travelled with this company. We spent 5 days in Morocco with Hamed, who always answered our questions quickly, even during the trip. He booked us the luxury Sahara camp: the most impressive part of the trip. Our driver, Mbarek, is really pleasant and very safe.»

Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know before booking your desert tour

How much does a desert tour from Marrakech cost?

Our private tours start at €100 per person for the 2-day trip to the Zagora desert and €150 for the 3-day tour to the Merzouga desert. The final price depends on the number of travellers, the season and the type of camp, and includes a private vehicle with driver, accommodation, dinners and breakfasts, and the camel trek.

How many days do you need to visit the Merzouga desert?

From Marrakech you need at least 3 days for the round trip, because it is about nine hours’ drive each way; with 4 days the trip is more relaxed. From Fes or Ouarzazate it can be done in 2 days. If you only have 2 days in Marrakech, the alternative is the Zagora desert.

Can you travel from Marrakech to Fes via the desert?

Yes, and it is one of our most requested routes: instead of returning to where you started, the Merzouga desert sits halfway between the two cities. We run 2-, 3-, 4- and 5-day versions, both from Marrakech to Fes and from Fes to Marrakech.

Which is better, the Merzouga desert or Zagora?

Merzouga (Erg Chebbi) has the great golden sand dunes, over a hundred metres high. Zagora is closer to Marrakech, but its dunes are lower and the landscape stonier. If you can spare three days or more, choose Merzouga.

Is the desert tour suitable for children?

Yes. As the trip is private, we stop whenever needed and adapt the timings to your family. With children we recommend tours of 4 days or more, which spread the driving hours better, and the luxury camp with private bathroom.

When is the best time to visit the Moroccan desert?

Spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) have the most pleasant temperatures. In winter the days are sunny and the nights cold; in summer it is very hot at midday and the camel trek takes place at sunset.

A story from the desert

What is written in sand and what is carved in stone

In the Sahara they tell of two friends who were crossing the desert when they quarrelled and one slapped the other. The one who was struck, without a word, wrote in the sand: “Today my best friend hit me.” Later, at an oasis, he nearly drowned and his friend saved him. So he carved on a rock: “Today my best friend saved my life.”

“Why in the sand before, and now in stone?” asked the other.
“Because offences should be written where the wind can erase them, and the great things that happen to us where no wind can carry them away.”

That is the spirit in which we welcome every traveller. Come and meet us.
